For the ‘intimate acts,’ the Princess Diaries vet — who revealed she had to do ‘gross’ chemistry tests for castings early in her career — said they looked to Robinne Lee’s same-name novel for inspiration while making the film adaptation.
‘I was inspired by [Lee’s book] in terms of [intimate acts],’ she said. ‘In the book Robinne describes intimate acts with the most unbelievable energy.’

She noted one particular scene in the author’s work that was their ‘North Star’ while filming love scenes.
‘In their first physical sℯxual connection, Hayes brings Solene to orgasm while [she is fully] clothed,’ she recalled.
‘That became our North Star in terms of expressing cinematic sℯx in a way that makes it about her pleasure, while also making the point that a huge part of pleasure is giving someone else pleasure,’ she explained.
In the upcoming flick, Hathaway portrays a 40-year-old art gallery owner and single mother named Solène.
The premise of the film is that she becomes romantically involved with a 24-year-old lead singer of the boy band August Moon, Hayes Campbell — who is played by Galitzine.
Last month, Hathaway addressed rumors that her on-screen love interest is based on One Direction alum Harry Styles and her character is based on his real-life ex Olivia Wilde.
‘Everyone needs to chill,’ she told E! News as she shut down the speculation. ‘Sorry, I probably shouldn’t be that reactive about it. I just think no.’
Her most recent interview comes shortly after producer Cathy Schulman revealed the role was nearly played by another Hollywood A-lister instead of Hathaway.

She told Variety that they almost casted Sandra Bullock, 59, but ‘she wasn’t the right age.’
‘I’m not saying Anne wasn’t my first choice,’ Schulman clarified. ‘I’m saying I was thinking about the girl who we can all put ourselves in their shoes. The girl next door thing. Meg Ryan also does it so well. And so does Anne.’
She continued: ‘And I did that thing I always advise people not to do, which was really develop something with one person in mind — because what if you don’t get them?’
She added, ‘So I definitely felt the character on the page was sort of the vintage Anne from The Princess Diaries or The Devil Wears Prada. And I missed that Anne, and I wondered if she misses it too.
‘But also she had mentioned to me that she wanted to do something when she was 40, where she could kind of stand on top of a building and scream, “I’m 40 and I’m still vibrant. And more than that, I can still have sℯx, and I can still light up a room!’
The on-screen adaptation of The Idaof You premieres on Prime Video on May 2.
